Supported Applications
The Omega FMA1000 Series is an indicating air velocity and temperature transmitter designed for general-purpose industrial use. The series measures air velocity and temperature using a hot wire sensor design based on three RTD elements, providing both local display via a backlit LCD and remote transmitter output. Documented applications include research and development labs, HVAC systems, and manufacturing processes.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The FMA1000 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) and a process temperature range of -40 to 93°C (-40 to 199°F). The device is housed in a NEMA 4X (IP65) enclosure. Air velocity measurement ranges are available from 0 to 2.54 m/sec (0 to 500 FPM) up to 0 to 50.8 m/sec (0 to 10,000 FPM). Accuracy is specified as ±1.5% of reading for air velocity and ±0.5 °C (±0.9 °F) for temperature in the manual documentation; the data sheet specifies Air Velocity accuracy as "1.5% full scale or 12 FPM whichever larger" and Air Temperature accuracy as "0.5% full scale." Response time ranges from 250 msec up to 2 seconds.
Measurement Ranges
- FMA1004: 0 to 2.54 m/sec (0 to 500 FPM)
- FMA1001: 0 to 5.08 m/sec (0 to 1,000 FPM)
- FMA1005: 0 to 10.16 m/sec (0 to 2,000 FPM)
- FMA1002: 0 to 25.4 m/sec (0 to 5,000 FPM)
- FMA1003: 0 to 50.8 m/sec (0 to 10,000 FPM)
Configuration Options
The series supports multiple mounting configurations and output signal types to accommodate diverse installation requirements.
Mounting Configurations
- A (Top Mount): Fixed probe top mount configuration.
- B (Back Mount): Fixed probe right angle back mount configuration.
- R (Remote Probe): Remote probe mounting option with a 305 mm (12") long sensor probe included as standard, or available in a 95 mm (3.75") short probe version via the "-S" suffix.
Output Signals & Power
The transmitter provides dual linear analog outputs and high/low velocity alarm voltage outputs. Output signal options include:
- -MA Suffix: 4 to 20 mA output.
- -V1 Suffix: 0 to 5 Vdc output.
- -V2 Suffix: 0 to 10 Vdc output.
The device requires a power supply of 15 to 24 Vdc, drawing up to 200 mA. It includes a USB PC interface with Windows-based software for configuration and data logging.
Materials & Accessories
- Sensor Probe: Stainless steel sheath (standard length 12 in / 305 mm).
- Calibration: NIST traceable 4-point calibration certificate available as option CAL-3-FLOW.
- Cabling: Includes a shielded power/output cable; extended cabling options include the TX8-100 (8 conductor shielded cable, PVC insulation, 30.5 m / 100' spool).
Key Product Differences
The FMA1000 Series model numbers are structured to define the measurement range and mounting style directly within the part number prefix (e.g., FMA1004A for 500 FPM top mount, FMA1003R for 10,000 FPM remote probe). The suffix determines the electrical output signal (-MA, -V1, or -V2) and physical probe length. Models with the "-S" suffix indicate a short probe configuration (95 mm / 3.75") rather than the standard 305 mm (12") insertion length.
While the manual lists approvals including EN61326 Emissions, EN61000 Immunity, and UL/CSA, the primary data sheet emphasizes NIST traceable calibration capabilities. The series is designed for clean air applications; specific media compatibility beyond "clean, dry air" or "non-corrosive gases" should be verified against installation conditions.
