Supported Applications

The OMEGALUX® CH-SD Series is a compact immersion heater designed for difficult clean liquids. The series features an Incoloy sheath to provide compatibility with challenging liquid media. A documented application includes heating for industrial dishwashing equipment.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The CH-SD series operates within the following performance envelope:

  • Wattage: 5 to 10 kW
  • Voltage: 208, 240, or 480V
  • Phase: Single-phase and three-phase configurations are available.
  • Watt Density: 50 W/in²
  • Process Connection: 2" NPT brass screw plug
  • Enclosure Rating: NEMA-1 Rated compact general purpose enclosure

The heater utilizes a 3-element design. The sheath is specified as Incoloy for compatibility with difficult clean liquids; the specifications table also lists a 0.430" (1 cm) diameter copper sheath.

Configuration Options

Variants are configured by wattage, voltage, phase, and overall dimension B. The series supports the following specific configurations:

  • 5 kW Models: Available in 208V (3-phase), 240V (1-phase or 3-phase), and 480V (3-phase). Overall length Dim. B is 12¾" (33 cm).
  • 7.5 kW Models: Available in 208V (3-phase) and 240V (3-phase). Overall length Dim. B is 18¾" (47 cm).
  • 10 kW Models: Available in 208V, 240V, or 480V (all 3-phase). Overall length Dim. B is 20" (51 cm).

The model number construction follows the format: CH-SD-<kW>-<Volts>-<Phase>-<W/in²>-<No. Htg. Elem.>-<Dim. B in. (cm)>. For example, model CH-SD-504 represents a 240 volt, 5 kW heater.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes variants primarily by electrical input and physical length:

  • Voltage & Phase Distinctions: Models are differentiated by voltage (208V, 240V, or 480V) and phase configuration. Single-phase options exist for the 5 kW rating at 240V.
  • Dimensional Variations: Overall length varies with wattage: 12¾" (33 cm) for 5 kW units, 18¾" (47 cm) for 7.5 kW units, and 20" (51 cm) for 10 kW units.
  • Weight: 9 lb (4 kg) for 5 kW models; 10 lb (5 kg) for 7.5 and 10 kW models.

Note: This immersion heater should be used with an approved temperature control device to assure safe operation.
