Supported Applications

The Omega MHP series comprises Heavy Duty Aluminum Handle Thermocouple Probes designed for industrial temperature measurement applications. These handheld probes provide a rugged interface for spot-checking and process monitoring tasks where manual insertion is required.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Metal Handle Probe (MHP) meets or exceeds Special Limits of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2: Tolerance Class 1. Standard configurations with PFA-insulated lead wire support measurement ranges up to 450°F. For higher temperature service, glass-insulated leads are available as an option for measurements up to 900°F.

Configuration Options

The MHP series offers extensive configurability across probe diameter, length, calibration type, and lead wire insulation to accommodate specific installation constraints.

Diameters and Lengths

• Probe Diameters: 1.5 mm (1/16"), 3.0 mm (1/8"), 4.5 mm (3/16"), or 6.0 mm (1/4")
• Standard Probe Lengths: Available from 32 mm (1.25") minimum up to 1 m (40"). Probes over 150 mm (6") incur additional cost per inch.
• Custom Engineering: Required for lengths exceeding 1.2 m (48").

Calibration and Junction Options

• Thermocouple Types: J, K, T, E, or N calibrations are specified via the model number.
• Junction Configuration: Grounded junctions are standard. Ungrounded probes are available by changing the 'G' suffix to 'U'. Exposed bead options (suffix 'E') are also offered for specific models.

Lead Wire and Connector

• Standard Lead: PFA-insulated lead wire potted into a 304 SS sheath.
• High-Temp Option: Fiberglass insulated lead wire (GG suffix) for service up to 900°F. Glass-insulated leads are also available as an option.
• Connector Type: Male SMP Miniature Connector is standard; connector terminations -OSTW-M or -SMPW-M are supported.

Key Product Differences

The MHP series model number structure defines the specific configuration. The format follows: MHP-(*SS-14G-(**)-SMP, where:

• * (Calibration Type): Specifies the thermocouple type (e.g., CA for K, IC for J).
• ** (Probe Length): Indicates length in inches.
• Suffixes: 'G' denotes a grounded junction; 'U' indicates an ungrounded probe. The suffix 'GG' designates fiberglass insulated lead wire, which is not available for the 1.5 mm (1/16") diameter option.

Variations in model numbers also reflect differences between standard PFA insulation and high-temperature glass or fiberglass options, as well as distinctions between grounded, ungrounded, and exposed junction types.
