Supported Applications
The Omega SGT Linear Diaphragm series provides transducer quality, linear diaphragm pattern strain gages designed for use in pressure transducer designs. These patterns feature four strain gages mounted onto a single carrier; the center gage goes into tension while the outer two go into compression when subjected to uniform pressure on a clamped diaphragm.
In this configuration, radial and tangential strains are positive near the center of the diaphragm and nearly equal. The radial strain decreases and becomes negative moving toward the outer edge. Leads or solder pads are located in the low-stress area midway between the center and the outer edge where strain is at its lowest.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series supports nominal resistances of 350 Ω, 500 Ω, and 1000 Ω. Maximum permitted bridge energizing voltage (Vrms) varies by model size and resistance; for example, the SGT-9/350-LD11 lists a maximum of 4.5 Vrms, while the SGT-18/1000-LD13 supports up to 13 Vrms.
Temperature compensation is available in two configurations: ST for Steel and AL for Aluminum. The series includes full-bridge patterns (e.g., SGT-9 through SGT-24) and half-bridge sections used in pairs (SGT-8).
Key Performance Parameters
- Nominal Resistance: 350 Ω, 500 Ω, or 1000 Ω.
- Maximum Bridge Voltage: Ranges from 3.5 Vrms (SGT-7/350-LD11) to 14 Vrms (e.g., SGT-24/350-LD13).
- Packaging: Sold in packages of 5.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable dimensions, termination types, and temperature compensation materials to match specific diaphragm sizes. Models are identified by the format SGT-/-LD.
Diaphragm Sizes & Patterns
- Full-Bridge Linear Diaphragm: Available in 7 mm (0.28"), 10.2 mm (0.4"), 13.5 mm (0.5"), 19.2 mm (0.75 to 0.8"), and 25.4 mm (1") diameters.
- Half-Bridge Linear Diaphragm: SGT-8 models are used in pairs for a 13 mm (0.5") diameter diaphragm application.
Termination & Electrical Connection
- Ribbon Leads: Designated by model suffixes LD11 and LD13.
- Solder Pads: Designated by model suffixes LD41 and LD43.
Temperature Compensation Materials
- ST (Steel): Models ending in 1 or 1 (e.g., -LD11, -LD41).
- AL (Aluminum): Models ending in 3 or 3 (e.g., -LD13, -LD43).
Key Product Differences
Variants differ primarily by diaphragm diameter, nominal resistance, and termination style. The SGT-7 series provides a full-bridge pattern for 7 mm (0.28") diameters with dimensions of 12.3 mm overall length.
Resistance & Heat Generation
The 19.2 mm diameter models are available in both 350 Ω and 1000 Ω options. The higher resistance (1000 Ω) variants, such as SGT-18/1000-LD11, offer reduced heat generation compared to the standard 350 Ω versions.
Half-Bridge vs. Full-Bridge
The SGT-8 series is designated as a half-bridge pattern used in pairs for 13 mm (0.5") diameter diaphragms, whereas models like the SGT-9 through SGT-24 are full-bridge patterns designed to match their specific listed diameters.
