The Omega SPIR series consists of fine diameter, uninsulated thermocouple wires designed for temperature measurement applications requiring base metal types J, K, T, N, and E. These bare wire elements are supplied as single legs or matched pairs to facilitate the construction of custom sensors or extension wiring in configurations where insulation is not required.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series covers a diameter range from 0.013 mm (0.0005") to 3.25 mm (0.128"). Standard stock lengths are provided on 76 mm (3") plastic spools with an overall length of 15 m (50'). The product overview notes that additional sizes and quantities are available upon special request.
Configuration Options
The SPIR series is configurable across multiple thermocouple types, wire diameters, and leg configurations. Selection involves specifying the material type, diameter code, and length suffix where applicable.

Key Product Differences
The series utilizes distinct model prefixes and suffixes to identify the thermocouple type and wire diameter.
- Type J: SPIR for Iron; SPCI for Constantan.
- Type K: SPCH for CHROMEGA®; SPAL for ALOMEGA®.
- Type T: SPCP for Copper.
- Type N: SPOP for OMEGA-P (Nicorosil); SPON for OMEGA-N (Nisil).
- Type E: SPCH for CHROMEGA®; SPCC for Constantan.
Material Pairing Note: There are two forms of Constantan with differing constituent element percentages. One form is matched to Iron (SPCI), while the other matches Copper or CHROMEGA® (SPCC). Correct pairing requires specifying SPCI with SPIR, and SPCC with either SPCP or SPCH.
