Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series 16G, 8G, and 4G are dual-loop temperature and process controllers designed for monitoring and control of temperature or general process conditions. These open-type units feature an RS-485 interface with Modbus® ASCII/RTU communication protocol to facilitate bench-top configuration or integration with a PLC or data control system.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series supports multiple input types including Thermocouple (K, J, T, E, N, R, S, B, L, U, TXK), 3-wire Platinum RTD (Pt100, JPt100), Resistance sensors (Cu50, Ni120), and Analog inputs (0 ~ 5Vdc, 0 ~ 10Vdc, 4 ~ 20mA, 0 ~ 20mA, 0 ~ 50mVdc). Display accuracy is specified as ±1.8°F plus ±0.3% of span (±1°C plus ±0.3% of span) at 77°F (25°C) after a 20-minute warm-up period.

Performance characteristics include a sampling rate of 0.1 sec/per scan for both analog inputs and thermocouple or platinum RTD sensors. The controllers operate within an ambient temperature range of 32 to 122°F (0 to 50°C) with relative humidity between 35% ~ 80% RH (non-condensing). Storage conditions are rated from -42 to 150°F (-20 to 65°C). The front panel carries an IP66 rating, and the units comply with CE and cULus certifications.

Configuration Options

The series is available in three DIN sizes: 1/16 DIN (W48 × H48mm), 1/8 DIN (W48 × H96mm), and 1/4 DIN (W96 × H96mm). Each unit features two independent control outputs configurable for dual-loop operation. Control modes include PID, PID program control (Ramp/Soak), FUZZY, Self-tuning, Manual, and On/OFF.

Output signal options per channel include:

  • Relay Output: SPST, 5 A @ 250 VAC resistive
  • Voltage Pulse Output: 12Vdc (max. 40 mA)
  • DC Current Output: 4 ~ 20mA (Load resistance Max. 500Ω)
  • Linear Voltage Output: 0 ~ 10Vdc

The display consists of a dual-color LCD showing the Process Value in orange and Set Point in green, with selectable resolution of 0 or 1 digit to the right of the decimal point. Power supply options include 80 ~ 260Vac 50/60Hz; 24Vac 50/60Hz ±10%; or 24 Vdc ±10%.

Optional functions available via model configuration codes include Event Input, Retransmission Output, and CT (Current Transformer) input. Electrical connections utilize solder-less terminals with M3 screws (width 5.8 mm).
