Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series DFC Digital Flow Controller is designed for the measurement and control of mass flow rates in gases. The series combines a straight tube sensor with a restrictor flow element to provide accurate readings across various industrial and scientific contexts.

Documented applications include:

  • Operating pumps and valves
  • Process equipment monitoring
  • Vacuum processes
  • Scientific and analytical applications
  • Bioreactors and surface depositions

The device is not designed for use in life support applications where any malfunction may cause personal injury.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series DFC operates within a process temperature range of 14 to 140°F (-10 to 60°C). It supports clean, non-corrosive gases compatible with the specified wetted parts. The maximum particulate size allowed is 20 microns.

Performance specifications include:

  • Accuracy: ±(0.5% of reading + 0.2% FS)
  • Repeatability: ±0.2% FS
  • Response Time: 150 ms
  • Pressure Limits: 120 psig (8.27 bar)
  • Leak Integrity: 1 x 10⁻⁹ sccs of helium

The series supports measurement ranges from 0 to 100 mL/min up to 0 to 100 L/min, with specific configurations available for very low flow (e.g., 0.5 mL/min to 50 mL/min) and high flow applications.

Power Supply

The standard power supply requirement is 12-26 VDC. Specific models in the DFC-54 through DFC-56 range require 24-26 VDC. Optional external power supplies are available, including a GFM-110P (110 V) and GFM-220PE (220 V).

Wetted Materials

The wetted materials include 316 SS, 416 SS, high temperature polyamide, alumina ceramic, epoxy, silicone, glass, gold, and FKM O-rings.

Configuration Options

The Series DFC offers configurable options for process connections, output signals, digital interfaces, and display types to meet specific installation needs. The model number guide follows the format: DFC - <PRESSURE RANGE> - <BODY SIZE> - <SEAL MATERIAL> - <FITTINGS> - <DISPLAY> - <OUTPUT SIGNAL> - <DIGITAL INTERFACE>.

Process Connections

Fittings are selected based on flow rate:

  • -A (1/8" compression): For very low and low flow rates.
  • -B (1/4" compression): For medium flow rates up to 50 L/min (-050).
  • -D (3/8" compression): For high flow rates up to 100 L/min (-100).

The series also supports threaded connections such as 10-32 UNF and 1/4-18 NPT depending on the body size.

Output Signals & Digital Interface

Analog output options include:

  • A (Default): 0-5 VDC
  • Selectable via display: 4-20 mA or 0-10 VDC

Digital communication is supported via an RS-232 interface (default) with a selectable RS-485 option. The device includes a DIN connector for electrical connections and status LEDs.

Display & Controls

The standard display features 2 x 16 character OLED screens showing mass flow, volumetric flow, pressure, and temperature parameters. Optional configurations may include an OLED screen with joystick or Esc button controls.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the Series DFC differ primarily by measurement range (body size), process connection type, and output configuration. The series encompasses models ranging from very low flow applications (e.g., 0.5 mL/min to 50 mL/min) to high flow rates up to 100 L/min.

Physical dimensions vary by model family:

  • DFC-01/50 range: Dimensions A: 3-21/32 [92.96] or 3-11/16 [93.47]; B: 4-13/32 [111.76] or 4-37/64 [116.33].
  • DFC-51/56 range: Dimensions A: 5-7/16 [137.92]; B: 4-27/32 [123.19].

Weights are listed as 1.40 lbs (0.635 kg) for DFC-01/50 models and 1.66 lbs (0.755 kg) for DFC-51/56 models.
