Supported Applications
The Omega PST Series Thermocouple Wire Stripper is designed for the easy stripping of metal-sheathed or OMEGACLAD® thermocouple wire. The tool features larger chip ports to facilitate continuous self-cleaning during operation.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series accommodates a range of nominal sheath outer diameters (OD) from 0.020 inches (0.50 mm) up to ¼ inch (6.25 mm). Each model is engineered with specific tool tolerances corresponding to its target OD; for example, the PST040A supports an OD range of 0.040 to 0.044 inches.
Unit weights vary by size class: models handling smaller diameters (e.g., PST020A through PST032A) weigh 28 g (1 oz), while mid-range units (PST040A through PST090A) weigh 71 g (2½ oz). Larger diameter strippers, such as the PST30MMA and above, have a weight of 128 g (4½ oz) or 227 g (8 oz).
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options based on sheath size requirements. Key selection parameters include:
- Nominal Sheath OD: Available in both Imperial and Metric designations, including 0.020 inches (0.50 mm), ⅛ inch (1.57 mm), ¼ inch (3.17 mm), and metric-specific sizes like 6.00 mm.
- Replacement Tool Bits: Three distinct bit models are available to match the stripper size: TB125, TB188, or TB250.
- Power Adaptors: The tool mounts in a standard drill chuck. Power adaptors are offered in sizes S, M, and L, selected according to the specific model number.
The PST Series includes 13 distinct models covering sheath ODs from 0.50 mm through 6.25 mm. Model numbers follow a pattern indicating nominal size (e.g., PST020A for 0.020 inches, PST45MMA for 4.50 mm).
Key Product Differences
Variants within the series are distinguished by their target sheath diameter and corresponding mechanical specifications:
- PST020A to PST032A: Designed for 0.50 mm to 0.79 mm OD wire; utilize TB125 replacement bits and Power Adaptor S.
- PST040A to PST090A: Covering 1.00 mm to 2.38 mm (⅜ inch) OD; equipped with TB188 replacement bits and Power Adaptor M.
- PST30MMA, PST125A, PST45MMA, PST187A, PST60MMA, PST250A: Handle larger diameters from 3.00 mm to 6.25 mm; require TB250 replacement bits and Power Adaptor M or L depending on the specific model.
To order additional power adaptors, specify POWER ADAPTOR followed by S, M, or L as indicated in the selection table.

Works Great
Bought 3 of them a few months ago and after doing a little adjusting of the cutter it works great.

Could not get it work
I bought two PST020A thermocouple wire strippers and they did not work. I followed the directions and tried everything I could think of but they simply did not work. I would say you're better off to order a custom 0.020" diameter thermocouple with the sheathing stripped than to try and use this wire stripper.

Thermocouple wire exposure tool
The tooth on the tool immediately broke on the first try and bound up the tool rendering it useless

Excellent Tool. Would buy again.
Very well made tool. The ratcheting gear teeth are very fine mesh and it is very easy to crimp even the largest brass fittings. The handle grip is very comfortable. I highly recommend this crimper tool.

Very nice tool
Purchased this to strip the sheath from Mineral Insulated Cable (304-K-MO-062-DUAL-SLE). The stripper works very well and efficiently with a little bit of adjustment. There is a set screw which allows you to adjust the position of the cutting tool. Initially the tool was too close to the center, which caused the stripper to cut through the the sheath, insulation, and thermocouple wire. Actually that setting worked pretty well for cleaning up the cable after being cut to length with side cutters. Then after adjusting the tool back a bit, so that it only removed the outer sheath, it worked perfectly to strip the sheath. I used it in a power drill with around 300 rpm with light to moderate pressure, with the mineral cable claimed in a vice with soft jaws.
Overall a very nice tool, and pretty much the only way to efficiently and cleanly strip mineral insulated cable.

Do the Power Adaptors need to be purchased separately along with the Stripper? I cannot find the Power Adaptors on your web site, only the Strippers.
Thank you for your inquiry. The Standard Power Adaptor is included with your purchase. If an additional one is needed, in the Search Bar, specify POWER ADAPTOR (*), where (*) indicates S, M or L. Check the table in the specification sheet.

Do you sale the bottom plate where you insert the wire? I did not see that in your data sheet.
Omega only sells the wire stripper portion and the replacement tool bit for this product.

How do you set the cutter blade? For a 2mm diameter sheath, do I use a smaller pin and adjust? Can't find any documentation for adjusting the cutter blade depth...
Move blade to touch material. Back out material and move blade in .010.
