Supported Applications

The Omega FMG80A series is a low-flow electromagnetic flow meter designed for chemical injection and difficult-to-meter applications involving pulsating metering pumps. The series serves pipe or tube sizes ranging from 1/4" to 3/4". It measures conductive fluids with conductivity greater than 20 microSiemens, maintaining accuracy across varying viscosities and densities due to the absence of moving parts.

For applications involving sodium hypochlorite, sodium chlorite, or sodium chlorate, specific conditions apply: maximum concentration is limited to 15%, maximum temperature to 100° F, and flow must exceed 20% of the meter's maximum for accurate reading. Consultation with the factory is recommended for other chemicals and concentrations.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The FMG80A series operates within an ambient temperature range of -18 to 54°C (0° to 130°F) and a fluid process temperature range of 0 to 93°C (32° to 200°F). The pressure rating is 150 psi. Accuracy varies by model family:

  • FMG81A, FMG82A: ±1% plus ±0.002 GPM of reading across rated range
  • FMG83A, FMG84A: ±1% plus ±0.005 GPM of reading across rated range

The series features hardware/software empty pipe detection based on conductivity and is insensitive to fluid density changes.

Configuration Options

The FMG80A series offers configurable flow ranges, process connections, and output signals tailored to specific installation needs. The housing consists of HDPE with 25% glass (or glass fiber), providing a NEMA 4X standard enclosure that is IP66 splashproof.

Flow Ranges

  • FMG81A, FMG82A: 0.03 GPM cutoff to 3 GPM max
  • FMG83A, FMG84A: 0.2 GPM cutoff to 20 GPM max

Wetted Materials & Connections

The meter body is constructed of PVDF with no metallic parts in the flow path. Electrodes and ground components are made from PVDF carbon fiber-filled material. Standard fittings include two NPT threaded adaptors (included). Adapters for 1/2" or larger pipe sizes are available in Polypropylene or PVDF; Female NPT adapters are available in 1/2" only.

Electrical & Output

The series utilizes an 8-pin female circular connector with a provided 6 m (19.7") cable. Power requirements are 10–15 Vdc, 150 mA (linear power supply recommended). Available output signals include:

  • Optoisolated current sinking or current sourcing pulse output: 30 Vdc, 5 mA max
  • Optoisolated 4-20 mA current loop: 7 Vdc plus load voltage drop min; 50 Vdc max
  • Pulse rates for FMG81A/FMG82A: 1000 pulses/liter (3785 pulses/gallon)
  • Pulse rates for FMG83A/FMG84A: 500 pulses/liter (1892 pulses/gallon)

Dimensions & Accessories

The meter measures 7.2" (18.3 cm) in length with adapters as shown, or 4.2" (10.7 cm) without adapters; height is 3.5" (89 mm). A mounting bracket is available to add stability for installation in tight spaces. Replacement parts include specific adapter kits and a replacement cable.

Key Product Differences

The series comprises four distinct models differentiated by pipe size and flow capacity:

  • FMG81A: Magmeter for ¼" NPT, rated to 3 GPM max.
  • FMG82A: Magmeter for ⅜" NPT, rated to 3 GPM max.
  • FMG83A: Magmeter for ½" NPT, rated to 20 GPM max.
  • FMG84A: Magmeter for ¾" NPT, rated to 20 GPM max.

The FMG81A and FMG82A models share the lower flow range (3 GPM) with a higher pulse rate of 1000 pulses/liter. The FMG83A and FMG84A models support the higher flow range (20 GPM) with a pulse rate of 500 pulses/liter.
